Israel, landmines and Turkey’s past sins
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan’s government withdrew draft legislation envisaging 44-year lease of agricultural land in exchange for clearing landmines on the Syrian border at the very last moment after strong public opposition coming from a wide section of the society, including his own supporters. The preceding political debate had spilled over to seemingly irrelevant topics like Turkey’s past iniquities against non-Moslem minorities.
